Unsuccessful Instructor Candidates

Modified on Mon, Feb 5 at 11:18 AM

Any instructor candidate who does not pass or is marked as unsuccessful during their enrolled instructor course can re-enroll in another offering within one (1) year of unsuccessful evaluation. The instructor candidate must have been present for the in-person session for this option to be available. Repeat enrollments due to an unsuccessful evaluation are not subject to the full tuition cost and must only pay the administrative processing fee as follows:

  • Lifeguarding Instructor: $100
  • Lifeguarding Instructor Re-Entry: $100
  • Lifeguarding Instructor Review: $75
  • First aid/CPR/AED Instructor: $75
  • Basic Life Support Instructor: $75

All reattempt requests must be made within one (1) year from the original class date to be eligible for re-enrollment without paying the full tuition cost. Reattempt requests can be made by creating a support ticket.

If a reattempt is not desired, a refund would not be an option, as an evaluation was given for services. The refund policy, as stated in these terms, would apply. The instructor candidate's unsuccessful or not evaluated grade will be the participant’s final grade to which the tuition is applied. Reschedule courses are not guaranteed to run and may be canceled. If a rescheduled class is canceled, the participant may choose an alternative date.

If an instructor candidate is unsuccessful on the second attempt, they must re-enroll in an instructor course and pay the full tuition fee; they are no longer eligible for exemption of tuition.

If the instructor candidate received a grade of unsuccessful and they believe they were not evaluated fairly, the instructor trainer did not conduct the class according to the American Red Cross guidelines and Instructor Trainer's Guide, or they were otherwise disadvantaged in some way from achieving a successful evaluation, they may appeal the evaluation according to the Review and Appeals policy

For students who believe they have been discriminated against in the grading and evaluation process, please see Complaints.
